IS IT CONSERVATION OVERKILL?

A recent news article (SBC the 26th May 2006) involving an interview with Officers from the Ministry of Environment caught my attention.

The Officer highlighted in the program that the Ministry of Environment is in the process of cultivating thousands of “boie jolie ceour” on Mahe, which will be transplanted on Praslin in the future. The Officer highlighted the fact that this species of tree was not endemic to Praslin. read more

AN ALTERNATIVE CENTRAL BANK ANNIVERSARY LECTURE

After many years have elapsed, the Central Bank decided, out of the blue, to organise a lecture to mark the occasion of the anniversary of the creation of the Seychelles Central Bank. Since the last anniversary lecture, the currency crisis has become more acute while the economy, according to official figures has contracted by 13 percent on a per capita basis. Rather than invite international known expertise to talk about our crisis and suggest ways to resolve it, the Board of the Central Bank preferred to divert the attention of the public from the issue by choosing a topic that is far removed from our real problems. read more

JOE PUBLIC ASKS LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS

Mr. Public wrote a letter last week in ‘The People’ questioning whether I have completed my training as a lawyer and wanted to know if I am going to remain this ‘half baked Zavoka’. For his information I have not, at least not yet. Currently I am fully involved in bringing a change of the people that have been running abysmally our country for the last twenty-nine years. I am of the opinion that they have over-stayed their welcome and it is time for them to step aside allowing Seychelles a fresh start, which is long overdue. read more

TROUKLER

A BRIDGE TO CELEBRATE

The Seychelles Nation this week (Wednesday 1st June 2006) , proudly publishes an article on he important new bridge linking Mahe to Eden Island. The immediate impressions of this bridge are that it is well a constructed, sturdy, steel edifice, likely to stand the test of time and a tsunami. This is a somewhat marked difference from the so-called Cascade Bridge, which took much longer to build and needed repair work even before it had been used. read more

THE DAY THE TORCH OF FREEDOM WAS EXTINGUISHED IN SEYCHELLES

The 5th June 1977, will forever remain as the day of infamy in the history of our country.

On that day, a group of power hungry individuals, led by France Albert Rene, committed treason, a capital crime that has no statute of limitation. The crime was compounded by the fact that France Albert Rene was Prime Minister under the Constitution and he had sworn allegiance to that Constitution and to his President James R Mancham. read more

SACL SHARES DEBACLE CONTINUES

Sir,

Please allow me a little space in your newspaper to express the disappointment that I am sure many are feeling regarding the sale of SACL Shares.

It is increasingly obvious that if the SPPF government had offered all of the available SACL shares to genuine Seychellois investors, instead of seeking its so called “strategic partner” in neighbouring Mauritius, the Seychellois community would have purchased all the available shares in SACL. read more
