GERALD SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

Sir,

I have received news that during a political speech on Sunday 4th June 2006, in Gordon Square, Victoria, Mr. France Albert Rene stated that my son, Mr Ralph Volcere, had sold my land in Mahe and made off with the proceeds.

I would like to set the record straight and lay this matter to rest. The only land I have ever owned at Anse Aux Pins, was the home that I had worked hard to build for my family. This home was compulsorily confiscated by Mr. Rene and his SPPF government and given to my tenants without my approval during Mr Rene’s dictatorship.

Thus the statement made by Mr Rene is a fabrication designed to slander and negatively sensationalise the character of my son and drag my family into Seychelles politics. It was a comment designed to distract the people of Seychelles from the real issues that affect their daily lives and our worthy of Mr Rene’s comments.

My son’s involvement in the political struggle of the Seychellois people is something that myself and my family fully respect and support. Mr Rene was a key instigator in the persecution and repression of my family since the coup d’etat over 25 years ago. As a consequence of this in 1985 we finally had to leave the country for political refuge in the UK.

I am now a 76 year old man who has seen and suffered due to the evils of human nature and authoritarian control; please leave me and my family, who have now built a new life overseas, out of the SPPF’s animal farm syndrome of dirty politics. Please take some advice from this elderly man and concentrate on the substance behind policies and people’s serious concerns rather than on school boy slander.

Thank you for the space. I would like my letter featured in full.

Regards,

Mr Gerald Volcere
