MANCHAM: VISITING PROFESSOR OF UNIVERSITY OF PEACE

According to a comm-uniqué from Glacis-sur-Mer, former President James R. Mancham has been unanimously nominated by the Scientific and Educational Board of the European Center for Peace and Development (ECPD) as a visiting Professor of the University of Peace in the area of peace studies and international relations. Concurrently the Academic Council of the ECPD has nominated President Mancham as a member of the Council.

These announcements were made by H.E. Takehiro Togo, President of the ECPD Academic Council who is the former Japanese Ambassador to Singapore, Turkey and Russia at an official reception of a Study Group on Peace, Reconciliation and Inter-Religious Tolerance in the Balkans, which was attended by H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the newly independent Nation of Montenegro, where the Study Group met from the 16th to the 19th of June. It is to be noted that the University of Peace was established by the United Nations in Belgrade some 20 years ago.

Responding to several congratulatory remarks, President Mancham took the opportunity to reiterate his call for the Nations of the world to start thinking about the creation of one global federal Government. In this respect, he quoted Victor Hugo who said that no army in the world could defeat an idea whose time has come.

“The different blocks which have been created from the basis of distrust and fear could bring about a catastrophic collision unless we converge towards the birth of a world of genuine caring and sharing,” former President Mancham stated.

Speaking after him, Mme Christine Samandari-Hakin PhD. who is Director Europe for the Bahai International Community said that she totally endorse the proposal of President Mancham. “It has always been the teaching of our founder that the world is but one planet and humanity only one family,” she said to great applause.
