MORE ABUSE OF POWER BY THE SPPF

Last week the National Assembly gave priority to a motion tabled on 11th May, 2006, by Honourable Herminie over all others. This certainly happened with the collusion of the Speaker of the House, who in fifteen years has not been able to demonstrate an ounce of impartiality. The motion reads as follows: “This Assembly demands that this book ‘Seychelles, in search of Democracy’ is removed from all places belonging to the National Assembly because it is a plagiarised document and the facts within it are incorrect”.

In fact the Speaker allowed this motion to be tabled without checking on its validity. The motion is an anomaly because the book does not feature anywhere in the National Assembly or anywhere else belonging to the National Assembly. The SPPF it seems is looking for plagiarism, but they needed to go no further than their own habits.

The Torch of Freedom, by France Albert Rene is a book with copies of articles of The People from 1964 onwards, when the respected Mr. Rifned Jumeau was the Editor of that paper.

Albert Rene had the cheek to send James Michel to copy all the editorials and other documents published in Mr. Jumeau’s paper and then to make the claim that his book was “A collection of Speeches and writings by France Albert”. This could only have been so if Albert Rene was ‘Rifned’ in the 1960s and has now become ‘Marie Antoinette’. Mr. Rifned Jumeau was Editor of The People from 1964 and Ms Marie Antoinette Rose is listed as being Editor of The People these days.

Mr. Rifned Jumeau has stated that no one asked him for permission to copy his works, that he gave no such permission and that no acknowledgement was given to him for all the editorials he brought out in his paper which have now been copied and printed in the book ‘Torch of Freedom’.

Two famous copies of our time are when Francis Savy and his STMA copied the New Zealand Tourism Campaign Logo and were obliged to stop using it after having spent millions of the taxpayers’ money in promoting it. The second one was when the group Culture Club stopped SPPF using the ring tone taken from their song Y.M.C.A.

As to the issue of factual correctness of the book, ‘Seychelles In Search Of Democracy’, by St. Ange and Georges, it is believed that Patrick Herminie may have a point as the book does not cover the assassinations that have taken place in Seychelles under the one-party regime of Albert Rene and James Michel. The blowing up of Simon Denousse and Mike Asher has not been included.

The request by Herminie himself to have more ventilation in Police cells has not been included, as historians will one day ask for the motive of that request. Was it to benefit those who use holding cells for sexual games?

The case of the lady who called chief for a hot water boiler was also not included even though this is regarded as the biggest single action recorded in Seychelles against human values and respect for children.

Herminie wanted a book that is not in the National Assembly removed from the National Assembly. This was Herminie’s Revolution of the day, a fight with Casper the friendly ghost and of a shadow he sees and which is scaring him. But Herminie did not see anything wrong with Albert Rene’s book, copied word for word from the Editorials of Mr. Rifned Jumeau’s Paper.
