SIF to organize exhibition on traditional uses of
The Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF), which administers the Vallée de Mai nature reserve (as well as the atoll of Aldabra) has announced that it will be organizing an exhibition on “traditional uses of coco-de-mer products” that will take place on Praslin next week.
The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Grand’ Anse (Praslin) community centre on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th April, although the official opening will actually take place on Tuesday 4th at 3 p.m.
After that the exhibition will move to the Vallée de Mai itself where the members of the SIF board will visit it on Thursday 6th, just before it closes. The SIF Board members will be on Praslin at the time for the Annual General Assembly of the SIF (6th-7th April).
The exhibition is expected to be a very interesting one and will include a variety of utensils and other objects made from coco-de-mer shell, those made from coco-de-mer leaf fibre (including various styles of hat), and a model house with the outer walls made from coco-de-mer leaf. Young models will wear the hats and a hat-maker will demonstrate the weaving process.
