More sub-divisions on Desroches island by Glenny Savy

The Amirantes island of Desroches is to be subjected to more sub-divisions, presumably for the building of villas for sale to up-market clients as is commonly the trend.

Documents at the Lands Office reveal that the head of the Islands Development Company ( IDC) Mr. Glenny Savy has applied for 11 more sub-divisions to be carried out on the island.

In 2004, the IDC gave away 28  half acre plots, totaling 14 acres to the waste disposal company , STAR, in payment for its services to the Seychelles Government.  All but two of the parcels have since been sold by STAR to the South African company, Great Safari Plains  for high class villa development.

In 1998, it was also claimed that an acre had been sold to a Frenchman. That was when Seychelles was the venue of the Miss World beauty pageant.

Desroches is also the site of a hotel which the IDC had leased to a Maldivian company two years ago , which relinquished it after just a few months. It was then given to the Mauritian group, Naiade Resorts, amid much publicity. But the alliance with Naiade did not last either and it is unclear who is running the Desroches Resort now. Would IDC be kind enough in the spirit of transparency to make this information available to the owners of Desroches, the people of Seychelles?
