We all know that the SPPF government is selling our land to many foreigners, most are masquerading as investors. When in reality they do not have the interest of this country at heart. This is being done, some will argue, to bring in foreign exchange earnings to the country with the objective to minimize the hard currency shortages we have been experiencing for the last fifteen years.
However, in doing so they are making access to land to Seychellois people unaffordable and worst still almost none existent. For those who already have land - they are the lucky ones whereas the ones especially those who voted for the SPPF will never have a small plot of land for themselves or their children. That is because they are all being stacked in very tight “houses”, like it is going to be the case on ‘Ile Perseverance’ and they will have to live like this for the rest of their lives. Whatever happened to “Caring and Sharing? “ Land is shared amongst the big cats who keep getting richer and richer, accommodating several concubines or girlfriends in the process.
They seem to have forgotten the Seychellois who have either elected them to high office and also those who exercised their democratic rights choosing not to support their candidacy for high office but have to put up with this situation because they have nowhere to go. It is good to lease reclaimed land on a long term basis to potential investors so as to get a good return on the country’s investment, but is it good to give out land on Mahe and Praslin and La Digue too? Where will the true Seychellois people go? Seychellois open your eyes!
