Democracy and Good Governance

The SPPF hierarchy, their Central Committee members and their representatives in the National Assembly do not understand the meaning of Democracy.  It is unfortunate that such high offices, “President of all Seychellois”, in a fledgling democracy as Seychelles are given to people who do not know what is at stake. The SPPF have never respected democracy because the creation of the SPPF is based on the death of democracy.  How can an assassin of Democracy now be a protector of Democracy? Troukler warned the Seychellois public of the referendum in sheep’s clothing in the National Assembly elections, and now the actions of the SPPF government under President Michel confirm its exact intentions.  Matters were made worse by President  Michel giving an “election pledge” on national television that there would not be any changes to the constitution. Troukler says “That you may retain your self-respect - it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, rather than by doing what you know is wrong.”

Corruption in the Seychelles

Troukler wonders whether the Government under the leadership of the Cabinet of Ministers will corporate with the US authorities should the request ever arrive.  This follows upon their refusal to co-operate with the Czech and South African authorities with respect to Radovan Krejcir.  This Government has yet to inform us about Farquhar Island and the investigations into recent deaths on Praslin and Mahé.  Troukler notes that President James Alix Michel “election pledge” to the people of Seychelles to deal with the drug barons has yet to be fulfilled.  Another pledge he made was to fight corruption and bring in good governance and accountability in the workings of the government.  These “election pledges” are also yet to be fulfilled.  The Declaration of assets Bill is yet to come into force.  Troukler says “President James Alix Michel has 4.5 Million dollars worth of reasons why he cannot do anything about corruption!”

The State of Civil Law and Order

To get things right in the civic society means having good leaders in the Police Force.  We should start by appointing a Police Commissioner who knows and understands how the dispensation of law and order and the justice system work.  The Police Commissioner thinks that justice begins at 8.00 am in the morning and finishes at 4.00 pm of each working day. The Police Commissioner even tells people that justice cannot be done after dark and that it is too late and that they should “come tomorrow”.  Troukler is worried, however, that the Police Commissioner in this Government’s “gard li ek nou” schemes of things - this gentleman may end up as Chief Executive Officer (Big Title – no job) of the Fire Brigade or even worse of the Medical Services!  Then fires or emergency operations would only be attended to between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and in the hours or days thereafter there will be a policy of let the fire burn or let the sick die. A good introduction to Seychelles Strategy 2017!

SMB – why doesn’t it close down?

An announcement, made by the President in the recent past, that the process of privatisation of the SMB would be over soon, is now gathering cobwebs in a ‘larmwar’ on the island of Farquhar in one of the rooms of the now closed hotel! The people heading SMB do not know how to order milk and milk products.  The situation is made worse by the fact that they cannot even produce the milk at the plant at Pointe Larue. SMB cannot source adequate supplies because they are not very good clients to their suppliers.  They order two or three consignments of goods and then refuse to honour their terms of payments.  They offer the overseas companies non-convertible rupees in returns for the goods they have received and not paid for.  This has led to a number of middle men coming into the picture and buying things on behalf of the SMB.  The practice has led to the price of goods in Seychelles being very expensive.  Look what happened with Supa Save.  Troukler says “The Company should change its name to Supa Shave” because of the way they shave your hard earned cash off you.
