The Court of Appeal, presided by three of the four judges at a time, started hearing 25 petitions this week, Monday.
Mr. Francis MacGregor is the newly appointed president of the court, assisted by Justices Steven Bwana, Jacques Hodoul and Satyabhooshun Domah. The Court of Appeal has been hearing 24 civil matters and a single criminal case. They were expected to finish hearing the appeals this week.
Most of next week has been reserved for writing of judgments, which will be delivered next Friday , the 24th August, 2007,.
According to the Seychelles Nation the criminal case involves a petition against a six-year jail term handed down to a resident of Takamaka who was convicted of sexually assaulting a girl below the age of 15 in August 2001.
