The weekly to seek interview with Mr. Glenny Savy
The now erratic so-called ‘Seychelles Independent’ made an appearance last week amidst lame excuses. Guess what? It was championing the cause of ambiguity again in an attempt to curry favour with the powerful. Under the banner “THE FARQUHAR HOTEL” on its front page in an article entitled ‘A Story That Refuses To Go Away’ the ‘Independent’ venomously defended Glenny Savy, the CEO of IDC, who for obvious reasons did not need being defended. Nobody as yet, especially the ‘Weekly’, has accused Mr. Glenny Savy of personally pocketing money from the proceeds of the hotel on Farquhar, which we now know existed thanks to the ‘Independent’ publication.
We quote from the article in the ‘Independent’: “The Seychelles Weekly, acting like a dog intent on sneaking off with another dog’s bone, picked up the story and has been running with it ever since. Since the supposedly illegal hotel is situated on an IDC run island, the Seychelles Weekly decided to insinuate that the money from the operation, millions of Euros, according to its last issue, was being pocketed by IDC supreme Glenny Savy.
Although IDC or Glenny Savy have refused to comment on the allegations, prompting the Seychelles Weekly to suggest that Savy has lost the ability to speak, an article in the latest issue of Silhouette, the Air Seychelles in-flight magazine, reveals that there is nothing underhand about the hotel operation on Farquhar island, its existence had been well known throughout and revenue collected had gone into IDC coffers.” It stated in the commentary.
The article in the ‘Independent’ now causes a number of questions to be raised. The fact that a hotel was in operation on Farquhar is now undisputable. The ‘Independent’ is saying that the IDC and Glenny Savy were behind it. Can IDC or Glenny Savy confirm that fact for all the people? Why the hotel operation was suddenly shut down two weeks ago after the story had appeared in the Regar and Weekly? “Revenue collected had gone into IDC coffers”, according to the ‘Independent’. Now, we want to know how long the hotel has been in operation and how much money and in what currency has gone into the IDC account and where? And as far as we can tell this has never been reported in the financial statement produced by IDC.
In fact ‘Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly’ had conscientiously allowed the matter to rest and in the Issue before this one we did not carry any article specifically about the illegal hotel operation on Farquhar. However, we still maintained our point of view that the hotel operation if it did exist and now we have no doubt that it did, was an illegal operation for countless reasons. The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) – The Seychelles Licensing Authority (SLA) – The Seychelles Investment Bureau (SIB) all confirmed to this newspaper that they had no knowledge of ever granting approval for a hotel operation on Farquhar island. At this stage the Commissioner of Police should look at this matter to establish if a criminal offence has been committed and/or to clear IDC of any wrong doing.
If these organisations, STB, SLA, SIB and the ‘Independent’ have set out to slander the good name of IDC and the reputation of Mr. Glenny Savy, we will not tolerate any of the sorts. ‘Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly’ will seek an interview with IDC and Mr. Glenny Savy so that their side of the story can be aired for all to judge! Keep posted, the saga has just began all thanks to the genius behind the ‘Seychelles Independent’.
