High Taxes Cause Contraction In Businesses and a host of Other Problems

Mr. Editor

You need to hit hard on this one, and warn people that the SPPF Government does not understand Economics and that they continue to come up with ways and means of taking our hard-earned money from our pockets and then wasting it with new District Administration buildings that are empty, while our fat-cat politicians and Government lackeys in high positions get a free company car and fuel paid for by us!

These guys think by taxing more they will increase revenue when it has been proven time and time again that high taxes cause contraction in businesses and a host of other problems. Take demand-pull inflation.  These idiots think that they will effectively stop money from chasing these goods that they consider a luxury, when in fact only money that is spent on goods and services can cause inflation to begin with.

Thus, by shifting more money into this car taxation arena, they are moving it out of another arena where it could have been more productively utilized (say increase in capital expenditures to grow a business and employ another person) or needed (like food staples, etc).

Worse, let’s watch what kind of shitty cars remain on the roads for years belching out black soot because their owners will never be able to afford to replace it.  Cars will start being handed down from generation to generation like a frigging home!

These SPPF people have really lost their marbles!!!

Madness “A La Grande Manierre.”

Dear Sir

Please note that effective today, Monday 21st July 2008 the Government has added a new levy on all imports of vehicles into Seychelles. This fee is charged over and above the existing Import Duty and GST.

The Levy is listed as follows:

 0 to 1300cc            SCR 25,000

1301 to 1600cc       SCR 30,000

1601 to 2000cc       SCR 50,000

2001 and above      SCR 100,000

Pickups and Trucks             SCR 10,000

Specialized vehicle e.g. Ambulances SCR 5,000

All vehicles with a CIF value of SCR 400,000 and above will be subject to a Levy of SCR 200,000

This levy is across the board and applies to vehicles already in Seychelles Bond as well.

This will effectively have a serious impact on the importation of vehicles into Seychelles especially Luxury brands.

This is madness “a la grande manierre.”
