The Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) is urging the government to abandon the idea of tampering or modifying the existing Licenses Act and proposes that it should instead enact an entirely new legislation designed primarily to protect the right of the citizen to conduct legitimate business activities against arbitrary state interference and restrictions and to protect the interest of the public in general. read more

SNP/DP candidate for President, Wavel Ramkalawan, and running mate Annette Georges, submit their nomination papers to Director of Election
The much anticipated announcement from the Electoral Commissioner setting the dates 28th, 29th and 30th July 2006 for Presidential Election marks an important chapter in the life of our nation. As time for election approaches the Church calls to the nation the place God holds in the Constitution. The fact that it seeks the guidance of God, and that Seychelles is a devoutly religious country makes it necessary for the Church to remind itself and the nation of its role and function. This proclamation serves to fulfill this expectation. We, therefore, offer this common message from the Church in response to this announcement. read more
Sir, as a Praslinois I feel duty bound to comment upon the circumstances of the death of Ryan Lesperance. It is now known from his bodily injuries that the young man was murdered. This begs the question, by whom? The rumours that are going around is that, this is a politically motivated incident possibly by members of the law enforcement agency or a security agency. read more

JOINT PROCLAMATION TO THE NATION FROM THE ROMAN CATHOLIC, ANGLICAN & PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLY CHURCHES
The most visible legacy of the SPPF is an iron man in chains; the only feature lacking is an AK 47. A legacy of failed economic policies, of black market, of shortages and humiliating queues for food; a culture of intolerance for diverse political opinions, a culture of corruption, a culture of State dependency and patronage, a legacy of State sponsored intimidation and victimization; a legacy of secret deals detrimental to the national interests, a mockery of democracy and the separation of powers; a legacy of pervasive and invasive control and manipulation of the individual called security clearance; a legacy of human and moral degradation. read more

According to the article, Michel, Isola Bella’s paymaster is tipped for victory; their only dilemma it seems is the margin by which he is expected to win. It would have been foolish on our part to expect anything else from the ‘Isola Bella’. We understand their predicament. read more
