SEYCHELLOIS BAND ENTERTAINS ROYAL COUPLE

On the occasion of Commonwealth Day on Monday 13th March, a group of Seychellois musicians living in London had the honour to perform for Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Prince Charles and Camilla were the Guests of Honour at a 500-strong reception held at Marlborough House, a royal palace in the heart of London that houses the Commonwealth Secretariat.

‘Youngstez’ band, with Jim Tall as lead guitarist and lead singer, Steve Damoo as keyboard player and vocalist, Ron Bonnelame as drummer and vocalist and Richard Esther as bass guitarist entertained the distinguished guests in the fine rooms of Marlborough House with a selection of music from all over the Commonwealth including many Seychellois songs. It was a moment of pride for the musicians and the Seychellois working for the Commonwealth Secretariat to see a Seychellois band performing on such an auspicious occasion.

The highlight of the evening for the band members was when they were presented to the Royal couple.

This is what the band had to say:

“The commonwealth gig will be one that none of us will ever forget as it was truly an honour to represent our small country in such a highly visible way at such a prestigious event and we will cherish the memories for years to come. We would like to thank everyone who made this happen for us, especially Derick Ally who made this memorable occasion possible.”
