08-January-2016
A host of activities including conference, exhibition and special religious services are being organised by the Josephine Cafrine Diocesan committee in collaboration with the Diocese of Port Victoria to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the leper girl.
Josephine Cafrine, a leper girl from Anse Royale , lived an extraordinary life. In spite of the terrible disease she endured, her faith in God and her love for humanity never wavered.
Since her autobiography was published in Belgium in 1923, she has intermittently been presented to the public and her extraordinary courage and faith has gained her a lot of admiration and she has been used as an example of true courage by Catholic faithfuls. She also appears among the first group of remarkable Seychellois women to grace the Seychelles Women's Hall of Fame in 2012.
To commemorate the 109th anniversary of her death , the Josephine Cafrine Diocesan Committee, will be holding activities from January 14 to 17.
Activities will include mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday January 13 at 12.15 pm; mass at St. Joseph's Church Anse Royale on Thursday January 14 at 5 pm, conference, exhibition and launch of Josephine Cafrine's translated autobiography at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday January 17 from 2.30 pm.
Copies of the autobiography in English, Kreol and French will be on sale at SR25 each on that day.
